Orange County, California, July 2011 – Have you ever wondered what the process of a breast enhancement or breast augmentation is like for the patient? How many doctor appointments are necessary before the surgery? What happens the moments leading up anesthesia? Unless a woman goes into a plastic surgeons office and undergoes a consultation, she likely won’t know what to expect the process to be like; therefore we have dedicated a quick guide to what the patient can expect the weeks leading up to and the day of surgery.

When receiving a breast augmentation in Orange County or a breast enhancement Orange County, the patient can expect to first meet with an experienced consultant and plastic surgeon. Once the patient and the surgeon go over expectations, desires, and projected results, the surgery can be booked (usually about 2 to 8 weeks out depending on what the patient desires). Once a date is established the pre-op date can be scheduled (usually 2 weeks prior to surgery)- it’s at this appointment patient before-photos are taken, prescriptions are given, balance of surgery is collected, consent forms are reviewed, and a list of what to avoid will be reviewed (alcohol, smoking, blood thinners etc…). The patient’s implants will be ordered at this time, and final plans will be mapped out with the patient. Then comes the exciting day of surgery! The patient will arrive first thing in the morning (typically 6AM to 8AM). It is at this time that the patient will change into a sterile gown, booties and cap; and have one final conversation with the surgeon. After any final questions are answered, the surgeon will typically draw on the patient’s body with a surgical marker, the anesthesiologist will introduce himself, and the patient will be wheeled into the sterile surgical suite where a team of highly skilled staff greets her warmly. The IV will be started… and the patient will comfortably drift off to La-La Land. Once the breast augmentation Orange County or Orange County breast enhancement surgery is completed the patient will slowly awaken in a peaceful, warm recovery room where a nurse will be by her side making sure her vital signs are healthy and normal. The patient will be in recovery for about 45 to 60 minutes until fully awake, in which (awake and alert) her care-taker will sit with her while the recovery nurse explains all of the aftercare information to both, and an appointment card for the following day will be given for patient check up. Additionally, it is customary for the surgeon to call and check in on the progress of the patient the night of surgery, to make sure they are comfortable and feeling well!

In all, for the patient it’s a relatively simple day, in which the surgeon and his staff will provide all the information at only the right times. Patients only need to arrive, and then follow simple directions. It’s beneficial to have an Orange County breast enhancement or Orange County breast augmentation surgery followed with the care of a loved one or friend, who is able and willing to attend to the patients needs (such as giving medication, food and water, and tending to the comfort of the post surgery patient).
