Penis Enlargement Ads
Malware infection?? Any help in fixing?
There was a problem with one of my two computers, the desktop computer which made it show penis enlargement ads everywhere. Also, some contacts on my MSN list (I have latest version on MSN) started giving me disguised links that lead to adult sites. This MSN problem also occurs on my laptop even though it is not infected. Any help?
(I know my name might make you think that this isn’t a serious question, but it is)
I already have an antivirus scanner – by Symantec and its a corporate edition that is kept updated regularly. It didn’t catch anything. Neither did Ad aware anniversary edition.
If you have ad-pop-ups, then you obviously have adware. Adware stands for ADvertising supported softWARE and its responsible for annoying pop-ups and website redirection to suspicious / dangerous / fraud / porn websites. Tools that will remove it for free :
♣ Malwarebytes AntiMalware
♣ SUPERAntiSpyware
♣ Spyware Terminator
♣ Windows Defender
♣ Ad-Aware SE
♣ Spybot Search & Destroy
♣ HijackThis
I`d give special attention to the first 3 programs listed. SUPER has an extensive scanning, it scans everything. Every bit. Spyware Terminator & Windows Defender are known for their aggression when removing and HijackThis is extremely useful for removing their registry entries. When everything else fails, HijackThis might solve the problem. Especially if combined with ComboFix. However that tool is not advised to novice computer users.

HijackThis is able to remove malicious registry entries. Pretty useful for final cleaning.

IF the problem appears to be a VIRUS problem, rather than adware or something else :
♣ AntiVir Avira ( highest detection rate among all antiviruses, 99,6% )
♣ ClamWin
♣ ThreatFire ( both being an addition programs to anti-viruses, with strong on demand scanner )

While on it, also destroy all restore points, virus/adware may be backed up in them :
1. Click Start / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore
2. Look on the left and click on : “System Restore Settings”
3. Check a box, at : “Turn off System Restore on all drives”
4. Click Apply / Yes / Ok
5. Click Start / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore
6. Click Yes
7. Uncheck that box
8. Apply / Ok
For the MSN problem : your contacts are obviously infected with some kind of MSN virus that is sending links to their every contact. Links are probably infected as well. And since you clicked on them, it may be the cause of your problem.
